Personally, I think Moses wrote the commandments and just pretended they came from God. Of course I could be wrong.

Consider these facts and questions:
1) The 3 prevalent means for written documentation of those ancient times were clay tablet, papyrus scroll and engraved stone. Why would God choose any of these common forms when He could have used means that demonstrated his powers like, for example, engraved diamond or at least stainless steel tablets which could last forever?
2) Why would a superior being consider coveting such a horrible sin, yet neglect to even mention such acts as vandalism, rape, incest or assault?
3) How convenient was it that the commandments just happened to correspond exactly to what the Israelites already believed (from Abraham)?
4) Ever wonder why Jesus always referred to the commandments as those handed down by Moses, instead of referring to them as God's commandments?
5) Wouldn't you think that the stone tablets carved by God Himself would be on display somewhere for people of faith to see?
6) Why would God choose to engrave His commandments only in front of Moses when He could do the same thing with bigger effect in front of the entire tribe?

Yet change the assumption to Moses writing these commandments himself and then claiming that God did (for authority) and all 6 questions dissappear.
