I'm picky when it comes to sport participation, I only ever liked rounders - I could give the ball a pretty good whack -, shinty, and using my rollerboots. At the age of nine I craved the opportunity to be involved in street hockey but I didn't have the gear and there was nothing in the area anyway. Frustrating to think the school had the shinty sticks and they sat unused (we only used them once in two years).

To all kids who find themselves in a similar situation, they should see if they can get together enough interested kids to make a team, then approach the school about loaning unused equipment indefinitely, if they use them it's understandable they would refuse, but if they are gathering dust it's just a sad waste.
