I don't generalise, yes I think the catholic religion is too obsessed with guilt, but the state has done its fair share of locking up minors who haven't done anything wrong, questionable punishments - at least in the past - and sex/physical abuse scandals. I've also been told by someone who spent time in both state and catholic children homes that the catholic homes were slightly preferable because they felt more concern was felt for them in the catholic homes, although they don't have all good to say of catholicism/nuns and priests, but not all bad either, and isn't that the case with everything, good and bad.
