I just think when religion is such a prominent aspect of humankind then it stands to reason religion will be a factor in many horrible events throughout history, but the many examples where atheism is or has been the doctrine of choice proves religion is not a prerequisite for evil by any means. Murderous atheists have been every bit as driven and passionate in their intolerance, supported by their own particular 'unquestionable' ideology.
Granted, but here's the thing: Atheist is not synonymous with areligious. And the 'many examples' often cited are, pretty much invariably, the 'Big 4' - Hitler, Staline, Pol Pot, Mao.
Hitler was a Roman Catholic.
Pol Pot was raised as a strict Roman Catholic as well.
Staline studied to become a bishop at some point, as an Orthodox Christian (essentially Soviet Catholics).
See a pattern? The cult of personality they built around themselves were directly inspired by Roman Catholicism.

A mere word. Clearly the levels of freedom vary country to country but even in the freest democracies people don't get that much of a say, I don't think it can really be any different because it's only practical to have a government and a select few making decisions or nothing would get done but to think it worth dying and bringing death on others just so your political leader can change every few years is misguided to say the least.
I guess that would depend on who does the dying and who does the killing, and why?
To the question 'Is Democracy worth dying for?'
My answer is ''Yes.''
