No Heather, Haiku is a formal Japanese form of poetry about nature. It is three lines with 5-7-5 syllables. Historically, poems about gardens and nature in general were very popular in the Eastern countries. At the end of the poem was a summary of three lines. Eventually, these three lines became a poetry form on their own. Unfortunately, like many other poetry forms, as Haiku became popular in the west the rules were ignored and now just anything does.

Minimalism is an informal type of poetic prose, or it can be a short poem, describing an emotion or experience. The idea of it is to use as few words as possible by excluding any extra 'filler' words which would help to maintain the rhythm and meter of a more formal poem. The above is just a short poem, inspired by but not actually an example of minimalism.

The challenge I am taking part in lasts 30 days. Each day a picture is posted to inspire that days writing. Some days there are also extra instructions e.g. a particular word may have to be included or it must describe something, perhaps colours. Because of my own ill health, and worrying about Ivor, I have written very little in the last couple of years. This challenge is helping me to write again, though I am still finding it difficult to concentrate.
