The Darknet is the part of the net where all users are anonymous and where anything can be said, advertised, bought and sold. It is accessed through a programme called TOR (https://www.torproject.org/). When you use the TOR browser your IP number will change to one from anywhere in the world. You will be anonymous. You can either browse the normal web anonymously, or go on to the Darknet where website addressess will be in a different format to normal ones. If, for instance, you wanted to buy a half ounce of skunk and a few grams of coke, you could go to a site called The Silk Road (http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion) where dealers from around the world advertise their drugs (with pics) for people to buy. You could also find sites selling explosives, guns, banned publications, stolen cars, as well as legal goods. There is the simple TOR download which will make you anonymous once you are connected, but visible whilst connecting, and there is a Linux installation which you put on a DVD or flashdrive and which you can boot up your PC with ...this version makes you anonymous from the word go but is slightly more complicated to install. There are plenty of videos re. TOR and the Darknet on YouTube which explain the set up.
